At Showdown Vereniging Cannonballs Assen, we think accessibility is very important. We understand better than anyone the comfort that comes from being accommodated without feeling patronized. For The Cannonballs Tournament 2025, the organization committee has made several adjustments to improve the accessibility of the event and the venue.
1. Tournify
Since the first Cannonballs tournament in 2022, digital tournament software, in the form of the Tournify app, has been used. Players can track when and where they need to play on their phone or laptop. The Cannonballs tournament 2025 will once again make use of Tournify.
Get the Tournify app for iOS or for Android.
2. Braille and large print markings in the hotel
Various locations in the hotel will be marked with Braille and large print signage. These locations include toilets, the elevator, playing rooms, and the match office.
3. Tactile maps
A tactile map in large print will be created for the entire hotel, including the floor with all the playing rooms. This map is currently in production. There will be several maps available in the hotel.
4. Braille menus
The hotel stay is all-inclusive. In addition to breakfast, lunch, and dinner served in the restaurant, you can also get snacks and drinks from various locations in the hotel throughout the day and evening. Braille menus will be provided at all locations.
5. Meals
For blind or visually impaired individuals, it can be a challenge to get food from a buffet. Therefore, volunteers will assist players at breakfast in getting food and serving coffee/tea/juice. At lunch, sandwiches will be available on the tables, and soup will be served by the hotel staff. At dinner, all courses will be served by hotel staff. In June/July, all participants and coaches/guides will receive an email with different menu options. Each day, there will be a mean, fish or vegetarian option. As everything will be served, the hotel would like to know menu choices in advance. Participants and coaches/guides can indicate their preference in the email.
6. Tactile Guide Lines
The tournament organization has teamed up with the company TG Lining. They will install tactile lines at various routes in the hotel to help players navigate more easily. Various routes will be created, including to and from the exit, the hotel lobby, the restaurant, and the floor with the playing areas.
