On this page you can find an explanation of the playing system of the Cannonballs Tournament 2025. In total, 60 players have registered, 28 ladies and 32 gentlemen.

Playing system ladies

The tournament consists of four rounds:

  • Round 1: preliminary round with groups consisting of four players
  • Round 2: second chance round
  • Round 3: group round with groups of three or four players
  • Round 4: finals and placement matches


 

Round 1

In this round, players are placed in seven groups of four players. Every player plays a match against all opponents in the group.
 

Round 2

This is the second chance round. The players who play this round, have an extra chance to get to the top 16. The second chance round will be played by players who finished the previous round at the following positions:

  • All numbers 2, except the best number 2
  • All numbers 3
  • The best three numbers 4

These 16 players all play one match. The eight winners will advance to the top 16 in round 3.
 

Round 3

In this round, players are placed in eight groups . Everyone will play a match against all opponents in the group. Groups H through K consist of four players, while groups L through O consist of three players. Groups are as follows:

  • Group H: places 1-16
  • Group I: places 1-16
  • Group J: places 1-16
  • Group K: places 1-16
  • Group L: places 17-28
  • Group M: places 17-28
  • Group N: places 17-28
  • Group O: places 17-28


 

Round 4

This is the last round. This round contains the finals and the placement matches.

  • The players from groups L through O will play two placement matches each for places 17 to 28.
  • Numbers 1 and 2 from groups H through K will play quarter finals.
  • Numbers 3 and 4 from groups H through K will play two placement matches for places 9 to 16.
  • The quarter final winners will advance to the semifinals.
  • The losing quarter finalists will play two placement matches for places 5 to 8.
  • The winners of the semifinals will advance to the finals.
  • The losing semifinalists will play the bronze finals.
  • The finals and bronze finals are played as best of five.


 

Playing system gentlemen

The tournament consists of four rounds:

In this round, the 32 gentlemen are placed in eight groups of four players. Every player plays a match against all opponents in the group.
 

Round 2

  • This is the second chance round. The players who play this round, have an extra chance to get to the top 16. The second chance round will be played by players who finished the previous round at the following positions:
  • All numbers 2
  • All numbers 3

These 16 players all play one match. The eight winners will advance to the top 16 in round 3.
 

Round 3

  • In this round, players are placed in eight groups of four players. Everyone will play a match against all opponents in the group. Groups are as follows:
  • Groups I: places 1-16
  • Groups J: places 1-16
  • Groups K: places 1-16
  • Groups L: places 1-16
  • Groups M: places 17-32
  • Groups N: places 17-32
  • Groups O: places 17-32
  • Groups P: places 17-32


 

Round 4

This is the last round. This round contains the finals and the placement matches.

  • The players from groups M through P will play two placement matches for places 17 to 32.
  • The numbers 1 and 2 from groups I through L will play quarter finals.
  • The numbers 3 and4 from groups I through L will play two placement matches for places 9 to 16.
  • The winners of the quarter finals will advance to the semifinals.
  • The losing quarter finalists will play two placement matches for places 5 to 8.
  • The winners of the semifinals will advance to the finals.
  • The losing semifinalists will play the bronze finals.
  • The finals and bronze finals are played as best of five.
