When and where
The tournament will be held from Thursday September 4 until Sunday September 7, 2025. The venue of the tournament is the luxurious hotel De Bonte Wever in Assen, the Netherlands.
Tournament details
- Event: international showdown tournament open to all players – both visually impaired and sighted.
- Organized by: Showdown Vereniging Cannonballs Assen
- Tournament venue: hotel De Bonte Wever Assen, Stadsbroek 17, 9405 BK Assen, the Netherlands
- Opening ceremony: Thursday, after dinner
- Matches: Friday and Saturday
- Closing ceremony: Saturday, before dinner
- Players: a maximum of 50 players, separate competitions for men and women.
- Matches will be played as best of three.
Tournament outline
A maximum of 50 players can compete at The Cannonballs Tournament 2025. Matches will be played on seven Czech tables and there are separate competitions for men and women. During the group stage of the tournament, matches will be played as best of three without a time limit. The precise tournament structure has not been decided upon yet, and will depend on the number of male and female players. The tournament structure will be published after registration has closed. If possible, matches will be played as best of five from the semifinals and up. We will make sure everyone can play as many matches as possible. There will be awards for the top three male and female players.
What to expect
- An all-inclusive stay at the luxurious hotel de Bonte Wever from Thursday, September 4, until Sunday, September 7.
- Depending on the selected tournament package, a stay of two, three or four nights at the hotel, or no stay at all.
- All-inclusive really means all-inclusive*, breakfast, lunch and dinner are included. In addition, all drinks and snacks are also included, for example coffee, tea, snacks, pastries, soft drinks, beer, wine and spirits.
- During your stay, you can use all hotel facilities free of charge**, such as, the tropical swimming paradise, sauna, gym, bowling alley, billiards, and more.
- The hotel has its very own café street with several bars where there’s always something to do once the matches have finished.
- An opportunity to engage with showdown players from across Europe and forge new friendships.
- On Thursday and Friday, matches will start at 8:30 and will end at 18:30. During lunch, there will be a break in the match schedule.
- There will be a transfer service to pick up participants at either the Assen train station or Schiphol international airport, and bring them to the hotel on Thursday. A return transfer will be available on Sunday.
- Accessibility has a high priority at the tournament. We will provide the following: braille markings in the elevators and at the playing rooms, braille menu’s, tactile maps of the hotel, and guide lines on the floors.
* If you select the minimal tournament package, dinner on Thursday and breakfast on all other days is not included.
** Spa treatments and massages are not included.
Tournament packages
At Showdown Vereniging Cannonballs Assen, we want to provide a tournament experience that fits you. That’s why we offer several different tournament packages you can choose from. Below is a description of the various packages. All packages include full participation in the tournament, and you can make use of the hotel’s all-inclusive concept. The below prices are based on a double room. We have only a limited number of single rooms available, and a single room costs an extra € 40 per night.
1. Full tournament package: price € 250 for players, € 210 for coaches/guides
- Arrival Thursday, September 4, departure Sunday, September 7, after breakfast.
- Stay of three nights at the hotel.
- Breakfast on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, lunch on Friday and Saturday, and dinner on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
- Unlimited free drinks and snacks during the entire stay.
2. Short stay package: price € 195 for players, € 155 for coaches/guides
- Arrival Thursday, September 4, departure Saturday, September 6, after dinner.
- Stay of two nights at the hotel.
- Breakfast on Friday and Saturday, lunch on Friday and Saturday, and dinner on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
- Unlimited free drinks and snacks on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The all-inclusive package ends on Saturday, after dinner.
3. Minimal tournament package: price € 75.
- No stay at the hotel.
- Arrival: Friday morning, September 5, before matches start, departure Saturday, September 6, after dinner.
- Lunch and dinner on Friday and Saturday.
- Unlimited free drinks and snacks on Friday and Saturday between 10:00 and 21:00.
4. Extended stay package: price € 350 for players, € 310 for coaches/guides
- Arrival Thursday, September 4, departure Monday, September 8.
- Stay of four nights at the hotel.
- Breakfast on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, lunch on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and dinner on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
- Unlimited free drinks and snacks during the entire stay.
Registration
We will send an open invitation to all clubs in the Netherlands and Europe. There is no maximum to the number of players from one club or country who can register. Registration will close on June 1, 2025, or when the maximum of 50 players is reached. So, make sure to grab the opportunity to register quickly before the tournament is full! Registration fees have to be paid no later than June 15. Participation in the tournament is not final as long as we haven’t received the registration fee. Therefore, players whose fee is still pending, will not be placed on the list of registered players.
Players can register individually, using a registration form on our website. The registration fee can be paid directly through one of the various online payment methods we provide, or via bank transfer. The registration form can be found here.

Refund policy
If, after having registered, you decide that you cannot participate in the tournament, we would really regret that. We can, however, give you a refund.
- If you cancel before June 15, we will refund the full registration fee.
- If you cancel before August 1, we will refund 50 percent of the registration fee.
- If you cancel after August 1, we can unfortunately not refund any registration fees.
